I am writing an essay about two individual who have made contributions to society. The individuals I chose are Wilhem Conrad Roetgen and Alexander Fleming. Roetgen discovered x-rays while Fleming discovered penicillin. Both individuals made their discoveries by accident; therefore, what would be a good thesis statement to describe how two people made historic dicoveries by mere coincidence. Best thesis statement gets the 10 points!!!!!!

How about:

Advances in the medical field have made it possible for people to extend their life expectancies beyond what our ancestors could have ever dreamed. Two men who made some of the most important medical discoveries of our time actually made these discoveries by mere coincidence. Wilhem Concrad Roetgan and Alexander Fleming are two individuals who made amazing contributions to our society without even intending to do so.

So, that would set up the contribution aspect while keeping with your idea that the discoveries were made by coincidence.

I love the idea of theSE men accidentally discovering something so wonderful...

I guess mine really isn't a thesis per se...however, i think it could make a great beginning..

"Ability is nothing without opportunity" Napoleon.

Considering how they discovered (each) i would say it was coincidence...coincidence isn't the right word. Its really just an accident. A mere happenstance...with the rain and the window being open and warm air and cold making mold...really in some ways a miracle. If you wanted you could say

What is a miracle? By definition it is: it is a powerful work requiring greater power or knowledge than the beholder has.

Back then this certainly was the case!

anyways good luck with your essay

i do love essays!!

Wilhem Conrad Roetgen and Alexander Fleming, both brilliant minds, who are praised for their excellent work, and discoveries in the field of medicine. Roetgen known for xrays and Fleming for penicillin, both of which are highly important discoveries used now days, were believe it or not, discovered by pure accident.

something like that. it sounds kinda stupid, but it gets the point across that u want to express.

Serendipity- the phenomenon of making chance discovery, is just as beautiful as it sounds.

The only people who don't make mistakes are the ones that don't do anything.
