In the case where a second shuttle is needed to ferry the Atlantis crew home?

No, the ISS can not dock to shuttles at the same time. The ISS has a emergency escape vehicle that would safely bring them back to earth, but it's highly unlikely that a second shuttle will be needed to bring the Atlantis home. If there's a prob. they most likely can fix it.

The space shuttle is an American innovation and the ISS can only dock one shuttle at a time. In the event that the crew needed an escape route, we would be reliant upon the Soviet craft that is always present for that very reason...Actually, never mind what I said about American innovation, a number of counties have contributed to the building and manufacture of the space shuttle.
