In the case where a second shuttle is needed to ferry the Atlantis crew home?

No, the ISS can not dock to shuttles at the same time. The ISS has a emergency escape vehicle that would safely bring them back to earth, but it's highly unlikely that a second shuttle will be needed to bring the Atlantis home. If there's a prob. they most likely can fix it.

In the event that the crew needed an escape route, we would be reliant upon the Soviet craft that is always present for that very reason...Actually, never mind what I said about American innovation, a number of counties have contributed to the building and manufacture of the space shuttle.
