You could do an 80s theme and watch 16 Candles, Breakfast Club, etc...I went to 80s Prom recently (an interactive 80s themed play) and it was so much fun...plus 80s styles are in right now!

A favorite movie is always good...Or one of my friends had a broadway themed party because she's in drama and loves that sort of thing...There's alway the time eras..50's sock hop, 60's-70s 'hippies', 80's, etc....Umm, mine was vaguely themed A Midsummer's Night Dream (just because I'm a Shakespeare nerd)..Or you could always go for the cliched sweet sixteen with dresses and suits and all that stuff (another friend did something like that)..So yeah, just find something that you like and build off of it!

Addams Family? It is close to Halloween. The cute pumpkin and paper skeleton thing has been outgrown but Addams Family is vaguely Goth. In fact I know a couple who had that theme for their wedding. A little strange I'll admit but it was pretty cool actually.

If they are 16 they DO NOT want mommy and daddy throwing a party unless it is a BIG sweet-sixteen party!

For a boy, try a video game party (but he'll probably think any party is lame) for a girl, do a spa party.
