In the middle of the night I was woken with the thumps - it is more like a large thump and then normal - it has been doing it all day - what the heck is it? It almost feels like adreneline rush but only one beat.

Sounds like heart palpitations. Are you stressed? It is also caused by caffeine and other stimulants like pot.See your doctor because this could lead into panic or anxiety disorder if it is brought on by stress. The doctor might also put you on a heart monitor just in case it's something else. Good luck!

You have arrhythmia and if it continues, I'd see my Dr. Although, this is not normally life threatening, it could become dangerous without taking a medication, such as pacerone, braxton, amiodarone, etc. Sometimes, it happens when you are under undue stress, too much caffein and even too much sugar. Take it easy and do see your Dr. if it lasts more than a couple of days.
