But I would like to know if anyone has smoked and NOT succesfully quit. I am worried. I dont want to continue but this is hard. I feel like my stress would go through the roof without it. Whats worse durring pregnancy high stress or cigarettes? I dont know what to do.

I smoke. I smoked through my other pregnancies as well. They say it lowers the birth weight etc. but my boys were 9lb9oz and 10lb13oz, healthy babies!
This time, I cut way down. My doc said its not healthy (obviously) but stress could do more harm. He said do the best I could to quit, but if I couldn't don't beat myself up over it.
Same goes to you. Do the best you can but if you can't totally quit, don't beat yourself up over it! Just do the best you can. Good luck and congrats on the baby!!

First of all, to those who say that smoking wont really cause any damage to your baby...what the hell are you doing having children? Cigarettes are harmful to you and the baby. Just because some of the idiots on here got lucky and had healthy babies does not mean that you will too. I admire you trying to quit. I understand how hard it is..but you can do it. But most doctors do recommend slowly weening. If you stop cold turkey it can actually harm the baby more than the smoking. Just cut it down slowly until you are eventually not doing it at all. Also, when you have the baby it is best to not smoke. Most chose to smoke outdoors..not knowing that even if you smoke outdoors you still track in OVER 40 CANCER CAUSING TOXINS that can be breathed in by your little ones. Please, for the health of your child, make an honest effort to quit. I am not judging you, and I do not think of you as a bad person, but it would be the right thing to do..for your baby..and yourself. If you get lung cancer or die..how would your child feel? All the money spent on cigarettes could be going to food or clothing for your child. And eventually, you know..this child will ask you to quit and when you don't it will be heartbreaking...

I am not a smoker, but my mom smoked while pregnant with me, and I have no health problems. And I was not a small baby either like they tell you that you will have. Ask anyone born in the early 70's and they will probably tell you that their moms smoked, drank coffee and alcohol and the kids came out just fine. Not that I am trying to tell you keep on smoking. Maybe take this opertunity to quit for good. Just think of all the money you will save and you will be healthier in the long run. Good luck.

Many of our parents would have smoked while pregnant as they did not realise the dangers. Many of these now grown up people are fine. But the other questions is how many people have been affected by their mother smoking while pregnant and have not answered? There has been studies done that found that many of these children do end of having asthma and other respiratory illness's. Some of these studies have been proved and some are only anecdotal. I guess what I am saying is "Is the risk to the health of your child really worth it?" If I were a smoker I would give up in a second. It maybe a good chance to give up this unhealthy habit.

Stress is far worse than cigarettes. To be honest with you, I quit when I found out I was pregnant, but as you said, it was much too difficult so I would smoke just one a day- at night time. It was a reward because I worked for 8 months while pregnant and I felt like I could not go through another day without a smoke. They say that cigarette smoking causes prematurity, low birth weight, and fetal defects, but that does not apply for everyone. My daughter has a very serious heart condition, but that was not due to smoking. She was 7 lbs, 6 oz , 21 !/2 inches long and healthy. She was one week overdue. My OBGYN also told me to try hard not to smoke but they never made me feel bad because I did. I also have many irresponsible friends who smoke marijuana while pregnant, and NOTHING happened to their babies! Its those who take care of their bodies that have the abnormalities. Good luck and congrats!

with my first pregnancy I threw them all out. Obviously you can't quit if you have them and keep buying them. Don't go to a store that sells them so you won't be tempted to buy them. When you think of smoking think about your baby instead. Also ask others not to smoke around you. If your partner smokes, tell him to quit or take it outside. You will be stressed at first, and you will have constant cravings, but as long as you don't give into them they WILL go away and you WILL be fine. If you have to, imagine a little baby surrounded in a cloud of smoke, that helped me. The only way to be successful is to throw all the cigarettes out TONIGHT, and don't give up. Find someone to support you. You can contact me for support if you would like to. Be strong and do it for your little baby.

I haven't but I was a smoker when I found out. Had a cigarette in my mouth when I took the test. Once it came back positive, I flushed that cigarrette and haven't picked up another one. Now I'm breastfeeding so I still can't smoke.

I don't really have an answer for you because I quit cold turkey, but I know you are struggling. All I can offer is a cyberhug and well wishes for you to quit. Because trust me, I crave them really hard sometimes... :-(

My mom smoked with all of her kids except for one. She had 7. They were all very healthy and have had no health problems. But, the only one who has a few problems is the one she didn't smoke with. I am not saying that it is good to smoke when pregnant, I am just stating a few facts. Also, I think high stress is worse.

I smoked during all three of my pregnancies because like you the stress from trying to quit was unbearable. I carried all three babies to term or close to it.

My first was 2 weeks over due and weighed 7 lbs 2 oz & 20 1/2 in
Second was 1 week over due and weighed 7 lbs 5 oz & 20 in
Last was 2 weeks early and weighed 8 lbs 9 oz & was 20 3/4 in

Also, I have been diagnosed as being bi-polar, and when I went to see the doctor (recently) he told me NOT to quit right now that cigs have a natural anti-depressant in them that some people only get from that one source. So, until I get put on an anti-depressant I am to continue smoking. Dr's orders :D

Yes, I smoked for the majority of my pregnancy, and I tried and tried to quit smoking. Once I went 24 hours without one and my husband went out and bought me a pack because I wouldn't go get them, but he couldn't handle my bitchyness.

One thing that I did that worked pretty well with me was make a starting time, say at noon, and go one hour without one, smoke half a cig, then go an hour and a half, smoke half, then go two hours... that way you're getting used to going longer without one, and eventually you'll end up at the point that you don't smoke at all.

I hope it works for you. If at all possible talk to your OB and see what he/she can do to help you. Good luck girly! =)
