I did, my husband took a job in Salt Lake City... we had lived in Texas for our entire marriage, we did not know anyone in Utah, but we moved and it has been so wonderful, we have made friends, and we love it.

I did. After living in a small town my whole life, I graduated from college and moved to Philadelphia. It was really hard to be alone in a big city, but with my job and new friends I met, it turned out to be a very exciting time. There were hard and lonely times, but most of the time it was all new and exciting, and it made me grow as a person and blossom into an adult. Good luck!

P.S. Regarding the answer above, Salt Lake City is not a big city! Give me a break.

Yes I definitely would!!!!!!!!! I am planning to move to the metro Phoenix area next year hopefully the last week of February or first week of March. My sister used to live out there and whenever I would go visit her...it would always feel like home. So, yes I would move to a big city where I did not know anyone!!! If it meant being happy in my life, I have no worries about moving!!!!!!

Sure,

I've done it already.

I moved from Pittsburgh (not a huge city, but up there with places like Saint Louis or San Antonio)....to Houston, TX (a city that has a larger metro area geographically than NYC but less population.)

I didn't know a soul.

It was awesome though, the south is certainly better than the ignorant northeast in terms of the people and economy.

Though, Houston's getting a lot of criminal jerkwads from post-Katrina New Orleans.....sucks.

I have done that before, and ended up finding an estranged uncle who helped me out a great deal. The city was London and I was in my early 20's. It was completely overwhelming to me because I had never traveled outside my hometown in Canada.

Looking back, I would have stuck it out even if I didn't have the help of a family member. I literally had that time of my life and met many lifelong friends. One of these friends introduced me to my husband. Needless, to say it worked out well for me! I grew up a lot and learned that there is life and other cultures outside my roots.

A big city can be lonely because people are generally more cautious. IMO, you have to make an effort to make a life for yourself and your own circle of friends. Otherwise, you could easily become anonymous in a big city.

I did it- I moved to Chicago without a job, friend, or home. It was the best thing I ever did. I found all three right away and I found other things I never could have dreamed of.

Just follow your heart and don't worry about what's waiting for you in the other city. If you feel like you should do it, go!

Depends on why you're moving. Chances are, you can make friends.

I'll be making a move in the next year and a half to a large city that I'm not firimilar with eiteher....it's all about taking chances. Just have the confidence that you'll make friends and get to know people.

In some ways it'd kind of suck. No one to hang out with, help you unpack, keep you company when you're alone, and so on...

But then again, it'd be kind of fun..No one knows you, so you can be anyone you want. You can shed all the reputations and stereotypes you gained in your old life and be a completely new person. If you were shy in your old town, you can go out and go crazy and no one would know that you were the kid who say in the corner in high school... You could erase past mistakes, and have a clean slate. Or it could all backfire and you could end up being the hermit with no friends because you didn't want to take the chance and meet new people..

But overall, I think I would, 'cause like I said, it sounds kind of fun =]

I did it. I moved to Minneapolis, MN for a job out of college. I lived there for just under 4 years before returning closer to where I grew up.

It was fun. I was able to explore a new city and I made lots of friends by getting involved in activities both at work and out of work. I also took some classes at local universities. I was able to explore another state.

Absolutely. When I was 21 I moved from a VERY small town called Menlo, up and oved to San Diego CA. I lived there for 10 years and loved every minute if it. It is like starting over if you need to or if you just need a refreshing change. Is it easy? no, but usually worth it.

have done so most of my life .came from a small town and this is what I've come away with #1 You can never go home again, meaning things will have changed so much you wouldn't know where you were #2 you can come back to places, but never again for the first time ,ever visit some place and thought "wow" I had a good time and because of that you went there again..... but wasn't happy with the trip...........think about it there are aways a sacrifice somewhere.
