Absolutely not... don't do it. Gasoline will dissolve the mothballs and it will gum up your fuel injection system.

Very little if at all!, It did help a little when they were using lead in gas ,-(the old days you know)! Hopefully you didn't put in a whole"bag full", - an excessive amount could make yur car run pretty rotten till they are all dissolved (quite some time).

Also if you have fuel injection, an large amount may cause injection problems for a while, - however this is an "extreme" case type problem.

The ingredient in moth balls, naphthalene, if used in sufficient amount, might add a VERY SLIGHT increase in the octane rating, but would have virtually no benefit and might cause problems.

The biggest myth about octane ratings is that higher numbers mean "high powered" gasoline. The octane rating of any fuel is based on its resistance to detonation as compared to the standard fuel, iso-octane, also known as 2,2,4-trimethylpentane. In plain English, if fuel is hard to burn, it has a high octane number. The octane rating has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the amount of energy released when the fuel is burned.

Motors that come with a specification for lower octane fules need them because they have lower compression ratios. If one puts a high octane fuel in a low compression motor, not as much will burn. This will lead to lower performance and worse gas mileage.

I've tried that, too. Didn"t seem to help a bit. even if it boosted the octane as it is supposed to do most moters are designed for regular gas and have no use for anything better. Only thing you gain by using premium gas is you get better gas mileage. but is the extra cost worth it?

I saw Mythbusters do an episode on this. They concluded that it did increase the performance of the engine, but thought that it might have long term ill effects. I saw no flaw in their experiment, so I would go with that.
