I want to start a new trend. Baseball historical questions. I will always head them with "Baseball historians only."

I'm hoping others will join in with the same "Baseball historians only."

That is a hotly contested question. Abner Doubleday is the first to be recognized as the creator of baseball, but the baseball hall of fame is now investigating evidence it was started by Edward B Chase(1825). There is also early references to baseball in a book written in 1744 by John Newberry titled A Little Pretty Pocket-Book where it describes the bat and the set up of the players on the field.

This is a great idea but why are you asking questions to which you already know the answer to? Makes no sense. Ask questions you want answered that you cannot find online or some such.

Anyway, Alexander Cartwright.
