There is no "fruit" on a Crape Myrtle- Lagerstroemia indica. After the flowers fall what is left are seeds.

Some people are so ignorant ... any structure that develops from a flower's ovary and contains a seed or seeds is a fruit. Fruits are NOT just juicy things that people can eat.

The first answer is correct; the fruit of a Crepe Myrtle is a roundish capsule that opens and releases the seeds (as in the pic).

The crape myrtle is valued mainly for its long period of striking summer flowers. After flowers fade and fall from the tree, fruit remains in the form of small brown capsules. These fruits remain throughout the winter.

They drop things similar to pine cones, but they are actually pods. They hurt like the dickens if you step on them in bare feet, & burn great in a fire! they're large; about the size of pine cones, too.
