Well, it depends how much you want the devil to be involved in your work. You could capitalize it when talking about the Spectacle of religious marketing, where The Devil is like a copyright in an advertisement, or you can just talk about the devil as an accepted object in people's view. The promotional aspects have already been applied for a couple of thousand years.

Capitalize the word when it is being used as a proper name. It should be lower case when it is referring to a common , every day devil. In general, a hint I use for my students is that if the word "the" or "a" appears before the noun, then it is a common noun with lower case letters. So in your paper, you will sometimes capitalize the word, and sometimes use lower case.
Example: The devil’s premise in Matthew 4... or
Devil, get thee behind me.

Students often have a similar problem with words like dad/Dad, mom/MOM, principal/Principal. The rule is the same. Used as proper title, direct address, or name, it gets a capital letter. Hope this sorts things out for you.

You do not capitalize devil. It is the name of his "species" like dog or cat. You do capitalize his names like Satan or Lucifer.
