I don't want to work at a fast food place, a restauraunt, or a grocery store. I was thinking Barnes & Noble, but I'm not sure of their restrictions and if I couldn't work their maybe Cold Stone (ice cream shop). Any other ideas?

In my state you can get a work permit at 14, but the hours you can work are limited and I'm fine with that. I only was planning on working about 15 a week anyway. I really would be interested in retail, but I'm pretty sure all the stores here require you to be 16.

Dunkin' Donuts! My friend works there, and she's only fifteen :) I really wanted to work at Cold Stone Creamery too, but I have to wait until I'm 16... and have a car, it's too far away from my house ;)

Federal law really restricts the hours you can work until you turn 16--you can only work so many hours per day, and you have to have so many breaks per shift, and only so many days per week, which is why you're having a hard time finding a job. Your best luck is to either try fast food or farm work. Somewhere like Barnes and Noble will not want you until you're at least 16--they want people who can do a whole shift. You can also see if someone is willing to pay you under the table, or try babysitting. It may sound crazy, but you'll get more hours, can get more than minimum wage, and don't get taxes taken out.

Barnes and Noble usually won't hire until age around 18 yrs of age because of the types of literature they sell. Now an ice cream shop you could do easily! Not too much different than a fast food place but it's not as hot and sucky. Good luck! DO MAKE SURE you get your work permit through your school for your parents to sign!
Good luck!

Since at 15 you are limited to the hours you can work due to school you should try to get your foot in the door at the very places you mentioned. Mc Donalds and Burger King can be fun to work at if you have the right attitude and a lot can be learned at both places. Donut shops and Pizza shops are also good places to get experiance. Anywhere there is a cash register as long as you remember even as a cashier you can not sell cigarettes, beer, ect. Also any major outlet, clothing store, shoe store or even an electronics store. Do consider how much you can learn for your future. Good Luck.
Please stay in school the real world can be cold and cruel to a 15 year old.

Get a work certificate and you can work most places that hire 18 yr olds. Some places call them dire need certificates for teens who need to help out at home. We used to do that without having to have permission. Good for you for wanting to work at your age. I wish we could stop the age limit rule and let people work where they fit in and can do the job and at any age they want to work!I started full time at 11 as a waitress and did a full 8 hr. adults shift and then cleaned the place and restocked before leaving! We had to carry those old cases of coke bottles in and put the bottles in a cooler back then!Keep up the good work!

In Illinois you can get a work permit at the age of 15..your parents have to sign it and you can only work so many hours... alot of places accept this and will let you work even if their policy says you must be 16.

You can hardly work at 15, if you do it wont be over 4-6 hours a week. This is why you will have a very hard time at it.
