I don't know if this can help you or not. I have a Zen Vision M 30Gb, and do not use any of the software that came with the player, it's awful, so i uninstalled it immediately.

I use WMP 11 beta 1 for sync and windows regular file explorer to manage the folders in the player as it shows up as a drive in MyPC. You know for photos, files and stuff.

I updated to WMP 11 Beta 2 and it created a second library (copy of the original -obviously a bug in the Beta) and it put that second set on the player, so I wound up with 2 copies of each song, so what I did was: first I reset the player using the little hole at the bottom. Then hooked it up via USB and using windows I just manually deleted ALL folders on the Zen. So when it was TOTALLY empty I synched again (with WMP 11 beta 1, to which I reverted, of course), and it synched perfectly and is working just fine.

So I don't know what recovery mode and all you mention is, actually.

Probably won't help, but there, I tried.

I had an iPod video 30Gb before and this Zen player is a LOT better! That I can tell you.

Well I have a Creative Zen Touch. Mine did something similar. What I did was let it totally run out of battery. Then recharge it. Then I pressed the power button a it worked! good luck.
