It, my Dear One, is the atumnal equinox, when the day is split into twelve hours of day and twelve of night and the sun actually crosses the equator. This year the equinox will actually be on the 23rd instead of the usual 21st (give or take...the sun does what she wants, really) I think it's a good time to go out and thank the Earth for giving Her bounty to us. Of course what's autumn in the Northern Hemisphere is vernal (or spring) in the Southern. Blessings. Toast your Mother on the 23rd. I do like the International Day of Peace that day too. Good time to have it.

It's two days after International Talk Like a Pirate Day. It's also the day after tomorrow, and the 264th day of the year.
It's the International Day of Peace of the United Nations. It's Independence Day for Malta, Belize, and Armenia. It's Thanksgiving Day in the Philippines. In Ancient Greece it was the eight day of the Eleusian Mysteries, when the secret rites of the Telesterion finish and the feast begins.

Sept. 21 and 22 (alternating years) are the fall equinox (first day of fall). After the equinox, the days begin to get shorter until the winter solstice (Dec. 21 or 22), the shortest day of the year, after which days beging to lengthen. In some religions (Wicca is probably the best known), these are days of worship.

It's Thursday. The placeholder so the 22nd doesn't fall off the calendar.
