I don't know what's up with it. I've scanned for viruses, spyware, etc, deleting cookies and files, etc, to see if it's running in my memory. My cpu says there's nothing wrong with that. I'm on it, doing normal things such as typing, surfing the internet, playing CDs. It'll freeze, and say that the program isn't repsonding. Somedays, it'll go smoothly, without errors. But today, it's really bad. Just recently, I got a pop-up saying that the virtual memory is low. Does this have anything to do with it being slow? Is there anything that I can do to get it to start working correctly. Please help me. Thanks

Have you tried giving it some caffiene? It always helps me when I feel slow

But seriously, it sounds like a RAM problem. RAM is a small amount of memory (usually around 512 MB or 1 GB) used to quickly store data being worked with, such as the song you're listening to, the web page you're looking at, and the document you're typing. If your computer doesn't have enough RAM to store all the stuff you're working on it has to move the extra stuff to your hard drive. The problem is that hard drives are very slow compared to RAM's speed. Virtual memory is that hard drive space used to store stuff that doesn't fit in your RAM. I'd recommend going out to a computer store and buying a 1GB stick of RAM and installing it. The virtual memory pop-up means you're definitely using up all the RAM you have already, and slowing things down by moving stuff to the hard drive.

right click on my computer and go to properties, wait a few moments for it to bring up the information. in the bottom right corner should read, your processor type, speed, and the amount of ram that you have. increasing any of these will help, especially if your ram is 256 megs or less. or if your processor is measure in mhz. most new computers have 1.2ghz or more with at least 256 megs or ram. a quick fix however is to right click on my computer and click the "advanced" tab. the first box describes, performance. click on "settings" to adjust the virtual memory. only do this if u have a pretty big hard-drive. typically the more virtual memory the better. however, more than 800 megs or virtual memory is more or less overkill, and is unnecessay.

there could be so many reasons.. you either have so many viruses and bugs on your computer.. in that case you need to format it..and use and anti virus program that prevents them.. are you probably have so many programs and folders that are taking so much of the C Disk's usage.. you have to make sure to uninstall the programs that are not needed at all.. or just delete extra files and folders that you don't use.. any reason could be the speed of your computer,, if your computer is very old.. then it's most likely to operate on a very low level speed and small capacity.

Go to Tools, Internet Options, and delete all the files on there. They are temporary internet files, and if there are too many, it slows down your browser.

Yes, you probably need to install more memory to avoid this.

I periodically reinstall Windows.

1. Back up your stuff.
2. Format and reinstall.
3. Reinstall programs and reload data.
