I went to circuitcity.com and looked under PCs and Desktops and it said AMD or Intel. What type of computer user would prefer AMD and what type intel?

it depends on what your going to with it if your just doing office apps and surfing internet intel is fine but if your going to game then go with amd runs much faster and able to do more tasks without slow down much. this is what i have i do both &amd 3400 64 bit is my chip and its great

I used to save money with AMD till the processor heated up the heat sink fan fell off and shorted out the system never again.
I use intell just stay away from the low heat laptop systems that offer a third of the speed as regular desk top chips. My laptop utilizes desk top intell chips and the extra fans and low battery time are entirely worth it

Generally speaking, while providing the same quality, AMD are cheaper. This is what causes some to say that Intel is better.
