because that is what they are....models....science has not come up with a way to accurately view an atom so they are just extremely educated guesses as to what it looks like....there are three models....the bohr model (the traditional version) the electron cloud model (a fuzzy circle with the nucleus hazy in the center) and the valence model with the electrons in rings around the nucleus...like i said these are educated guesses becuase we don't have pictures of them.
