I just got asked to the homecoming dance, and I accepted because she is a good friend and I like her, so I thought it would be fun.

Problem? I cant dance. She told me she is bad at dancing as well, but I dont want to look like an idiot like I did at prom when I went with another girl. The only thing I could do was slowdance, but when a fast-paced song came on, I stood there awkwardly swaying my hips and not knowing what to do. My prom date even told me I sucked, but she thought it was cute. I need help!

If you still have the time to prepare before that homecoming dance, you may ask the help of one of your friends whom you know is a good dancer. Request him to teach you a few dance steps. If you don't have a friend like that, if you can spend some extra money for hiring a dance instructor, it is the best thing that you can do. Or, you may just watch the television and turn the channel to any program where you see people dance. Imitate them. If still this is not possible, just get hold of a big mirror where you can see yourself. Stand in front of it and dance. See how you dance and when you see a certain body movement that is awkward on you, delete it from your dance step line up. If you see some body movements which look good on you, practice them a lot and perfect them. So, when you get to the homecoming dance, you already have mastered a few steps which you know look good on you and I'm sure, by that time, you already have self-confidence.

However, if none of the above is possible, just be there with your good friend and enjoy the evening with her. After all, nobody is perfect.

Awww, it is cute!! That is so adorable, it's okay... Maybe you should get some tapes. Or ask the girl you went to the prom with before (since she already knows your problem) to teach you some dancing. But all in all, don't worry too much about it, it's okay. A lot of people in there can't dance, so there won't be hardly any focus on your dancing. Have fun!

Stop telling yourself you cannot dance and start watching others that you think are good dancers and emulate them. Try to feel the music and express that feeling with your body movements as you dance. Don't worry, most people are not watching you when dance because they are too concerned with the way they are dancing.

Have fun and be loose when you dance. If you approach it like that and start telling yourself that you can dance, you will be amazed at the rhythm you suddenly acquire.

All of us were born with rhythm. We heard the rhythm of the beat of our mother's heart in the womb for 8+ months and we hear it every day in every living thing. Use that and let yourself feel the beat.

Take a few lessons at a dance studio before you go . Don't be self concious when you get out on the dance floor...many of the people dancing look stupid but they don't care what you think of them...because they are having fun. Practice with your prom date in private and support each other.

Go out with some friends to a club or have a small party. Let them show you some moves. You could take a class, but you may have to pay for it. Go to the gym- you'll get a count, a rhythm going- that will help. Listen to the music in your room. Stand in front of the mirror and experiment with different moves. Sing along if it helps. Try an aerobics video. It'll get you in shape and you can practice "mirroring" moves.

Don't worry about that crap. No one really goes to homecoming to dance. Its about your performance after homecoming what u should be worried about.

Look at it this way, if a guy is a good dancer odds are hes really self absorbed / gay/ becoming gay/ or some kind of metro dude..... basically like still gay.
