i am 36 weeks today and have been in preterm labor since 31.5 weeks. today i am 2.5 cm dilated and the baby is at -1 station. i have contractions every day, sometimes 5 minutes apart for about an hour and then they start to let up.
what are the odds that i will deliver in the next couple of days?

thanks!

I think you need to be talking to your DOCTOR not us!

Are you sure you're not having Braxton-Hicks contractions? I ask only because I was at 2cm at 32 weeks, 3 cm at 35 weeks, 4 cm at 40 weeks, and I didn't give birth until 41 weeks, 1 day. I was also completely effaced at 36 weeks...Any idea what your Bishop score is? It's usually used to figure out whether induction will work, but it can also be used to predict how close you are to labor...
Although, every week from 35 weeks on the doctor said I'd be in labor before my appointment the next week, so, I suppose odds are better that you WILL go into labor soon, but, don't bet the ranch on it. I've heard of a lot of other women walking around 2-4 cm dilated for days and even weeks - apparently, I'm not the only freak.

It all depends on your body and when the baby was conceived. 36 weeks is a start but try to hold on until 38 weeks. Sometimes labor starts when you are dehydrated. It feels like labor pains but it's not. you can be dilated at 2.5 cm for a long time, the pain can come and go and the baby is still not going to come until it's ready. God forbid there is an emergency and the doctor has to do a c-section and take the baby because of complications. I know that it's hard to carry a heavy load and you just want it to come out, but when it's ready you'll know. good luck, God bless you and your new baby when it arrives.

first of all congratulations on your pregnancy....and good luck when you actually do go into labor....hope all goes well. I actually don't have an answer for your question...(I went 1 week over due with all 3 of my pregnancies...and had to be induced with all of them). Anyway, the only thing I can offer you is a good tip that many people don't know about. My wonderful OB/GYN told me about it. Raspberry leaf tea has been known to be a uteran stimulant. It helps the uteran muscles get ready for labor and delivery. It comes from the very old Chinese culture and made it's way here years ago. The only place that I have been able to find it was at my local health foods store. Be careful though, because you can find "raspberry tea" or "raspberry flavored tea", but you don't want either of those. Make certain that you get the raspberry tea that is made from the actual raspberry leaf. It will clearly say "raspberry leaf tea". It tastes very yummy, and even if you don't care for the tast of tea, its nice if you add a little honey and milk. I hope this works for you, and again good luck and congratulations. Are you on anything to stop the labor? Does your doctor have you on modified bed rest?
36 weeks is too early to deliver your baby unless it's an emergency. Lungs are likely to be immature, which would put the baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with an IV, possibly antibiotics, and supplemental oxygen. There is also the possibility the baby's suck reflex might not be fully developed, leaving the baby needing a feeding tube, and you needing to pump if you were planning to breast feed.
Follow your doctor's instructions and I wish you the best with the birth of your little one.

I agree, try to take it easy for a couple more weeks, until you hit 38 weeks. That is considered full term and after that if you really want to have the baby. Walking sometimes helps but my sister who is an ob. says (I know it sounds funny!!) have lots of sex!!
She says the orgasms can get you started into labor faster that anything else they have discovered! Best of luck to you!

the odds are bigger, but I would be in bed taking it easy. I would try to hold off as long as I possibly could for the safty of my baby, because you dont know if the lung are fully dev. or not. Hope it all works out for you!

Be patient, labor can go on for a long time. But you are really close.

Very possible, have you packed your hospital bag yet? It took me 9 hours from 1cm to fully dialated, so get ready, good luck to you!
