If Alyssa is directly above Haleigh, then the distance is
450 -(-600) = 450 + 600 = 1,050
It could be more if they are not directly above/below each other.

the answer is 1050. think of it this way, think of below sea level as a negative and think of above sea level as a positive\\ if she goes up 450 ft she is at 450 feet, if she goes up 600 feet more she is at 1050..

There is 1050 feet between them. Simply add the two measurements, as one is basically -600 and the other 450. The space between is 1050 feet.

Add the two measurements together to find the total of feet between them. (600 below plus 450 above = 1050)
