Basically... i dated him 2 years ago a little bit.. and he's been away since then at the other end of the country... he's just returned and we've been hanging out a fair bit. when we talk, he stares straight into my eyes and has a smirk on his face.... i think i know what he's thinking, but then again, i dunno...

sounds a bit creepy to me. In animals, pointed staring is a dominance gesture - I would guess he wants something from you. That is what it is when my cat or dog does it. What does he want? Attention? More? Maybe he figures dating you a "little bit" wasn't enough...
