Do the exact OPPOSITE of what SBC does!

Be courteous, do not eat or chew gum, be helpful and understanding, no matter how much of a moron the customer is, and most importantly, do NOT hang up on your customers!

I worked a grocery store, so I can help. First, greet your customer and ask how their day went. Chit Chat a bit, but not alot,so they feel like your actualy doing the job. Lastly, tell them thanks for their service and have a great day. Not all of them will be nice back, but you never know when the boss is watching or the next cutomer is in a good mood, so do it any way. :)

Great customer service seems very simple. The first rule is to be in the moment with the customer. In other words, that customer is your world until they are taken care of. Knowing what they need to knowing how to get it and great followup are key.

Listen and do.

In that order.

And always provide an answer, even if it's not the one they want to hear!
