Over the centuries there have been some attempts by the kings to enforce absolutism - it didn't work in King Henry II's time because the Church was too powerful. It didn't work for John because the Barons were too powerful and it didn't work for Charles I because the people [Commons], and the various Protestant denominations were too powerful.

Absolutism failed in England because they never had a ruler intelligent enough to understand what it meant.

I think Absolutism would be a good idea, should Prince Harry become king of Britain.
