Passive transport does not require energy, in passive transport, substances diffuse in accordance with their concentrattion gradient, so it does not require energy, however when ions or molecules have to be moved against their concentration gradient, then enrgy is required as occurs in Active trasnsport

Passive transport involves movement of substances by diffusion, the definition of which is:

The movement of substances from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.

So the moving molecules will have kinetic energy, but what that has been transferred from I have no idea!
