The original song is by the Eurythmics as many here have noted. This was their first (of many) "popular" singles that were released in the 1980s. This was the title track from their second CD which was released in 1983.

Although Annie Lennox tends to be the "face" of the Eurythmics, her partner in crime and co-writer of this and many other songs is Dave Stewart. Before forming the Eurythmics in 1981 they were the founders of another underground "new wave" band, The Tourists. Dave and Annie were lovers back then, but their romantic relationship was over by the time the formed the Eurythmics.

They discontinued their musical partnership as the Eurythmics in 1990. Annie's gone on to make solo music and so too has Dave Stewart. Dave's been more successful as a producer than a commercial artist on his own. He has produced many famous artists including Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He's now married to Sibioan Fahey who was one of the three members of Bananarama. Before that she was a vocalist with the Specials and Fun Boy Three and then her last notable musical footnotes was ni Shakesphear's Sister.

And yes, Marilyn Manon covered this song too!

The Eurythmics (with Annie Lenox) did it first-or at least they're most well-known for it. Marily Manson redid it a few years back.

Artist/Song name- Billy Currington- Good directions lyrics I was sittin' there sellin' turnips on a flatbed truck Crunchin' or a pork rind when she pulled up She had to be thinkin' 'This is where the rednecks come from' She had Hollywood written on her license plate She was lost and lookin' for the interstate Needin' directions and I was the man for the job [Chorus] I told her way up yonder past the caution light There's a little country store with an old Coke sign You gotta stop in and ask Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea Then a left will take you to the interstate But a right will bring you right back here to me I was sittin' there thinkin' 'bout her pretty face Kickin' myself for not catchin' her name I threw my hat and thought, 'You fool, that coulda been love' I knew my old Ford couldn't run her down She probably didn't like me anyhow So I watched her disappear in a cloud of dust. [Chorus] I told her way up yonder past the caution light There's a little country store with an old Coke sign You gotta stop in and ask Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea Then a left will take you to the interstate But a right will bring you right back here to me Is this Georgia heat playin' tricks on me Or am I really seein' what I think I see The woman of my dreams comin' back to me She went way up yonder past the caution light Don't know why, but somethin' felt right When she stopped in and asked Miss Bell for some of her sweet tea Mama gave her a big 'ol glass and sent her right back here to me Thank God for good directions and turnip greens
