I have a granddaughter who is very impatient and always needing to do things with others. I'm trying to find a hobby for her that she might do by herself.

photography maybe....buy an inexpensive camera and let her imagination go wild....suggest that she take pictures of what makes her happy, sad, finds interesting or give her an "assignment" like photographing family members doing everyday things......photograph animals she likes, things around the yard....buy her a beginners book appropriate for her age that explains how a camera works....get her a small scrapbook and let her put together pages using odds and ends around the house for decoration.....it was something that i have always loved to do since i was a kid.......that way she can keep these photos and scrapbooks of her memories as a child when she gets older and be able to look back at them

1. Go to the library. Play computer games on the computer at home or at the library and help her with it. 2. Call a friend from school and have a playdate. My 7 year old is always bored on Sundays and calls her friend over or goes over there. 3. Enroll her in a park district class. Maybe swim lessons? 4. Have a movie afternoon at home once a week and watch 2 or 3 movies that day and eat popcorn. 5. Go to the park. My daughter usually finds someone there to run around with. 6. Go to the mall and walk around (try not to buy anything or maybe something small) and eat lunch there too. That could be a 1x a week thing. 7. Go to the nature center if you have one nearby. If she bores easily, right down a bunch of things to do around the house (play a game, draw, etc.) and put in a jar. Have her pick from the jar. If she balks at the idea, tell her she can either do it, or find something to do. She's 8 years old, and should be able entertain herself for awhile. She is an only child - so I think most importantly is that she have playdates with friends. It sounds as if you're a stay at home mom, so it's important to have somewhat of a structured day, so you're both not bored out of your mind all summer.

Beads for necklaces. Paint by numbers. How about making Christmas decorations? Bug collecting. She could have a little plot of your garden and plant some flowers and take care of it. I think she would be old enough to learn to embrodery. There are a lot of fun pictures out there she would probably enjoy doing. Now is the time to get her to read. Get some books she can handle and give her a reward when she is done with a book. Let her read it to you. Hope you find something she enjoys.

I have a 9 year old and she loves to draw and paint and watch DVDs and read books, I think if you just talk with her and ask her some questions , she will tell you what she likes. I started her in girl scouts this year and she has so much work to do to get her badges, and now she has things to do to keep her busy
