I feel that I need to know this, because I had met this guy who just recently stated that he has two wives in Jamaica. However, I find it very hard to believe him in spite of the rings on both of his hands that he was telling the truth, after doing some research about the Jamaican practices and culture. I know that it's supposed to be illegal in the U.S. to have two wives. Though not to say that some people don't break the law. Also it's hard for me to believe because he goes to church. I stay in Flint, MI. and I don't know of any churches that does that allows that type of thing. I' ve also looked for possible religions that may allow this, but I found nothing. So I need a very intelligent person who can help me out on this one, because I find it to be quite disturbing. Thank you all.

In the U.S., having more than one wife is called bigomy, is illegal, and considered a felony. There are some Mormon sects that continue to practice multiple marriages; and, unless governmental agencies choose to intervene, this practice will continue.

There are Middle Eastern countries that accept, practice, and condone multiple marriages. The United States has no jurisdiction in these countries; and multiple marriages in these countries will continue until those countries ban the practice.

Marriage is a commitment to love, respect, and care for another. If those in a plural marriage can do this, the only obstacle is their legal system

It is very illegal. They don't check that stuff out at the court house before they give you marriage liscence though. I think they should though. He may be happy now but just wait till the laws find him.

The Mormon church used to practice polygamy but now excommunicates you if they find out. There are rumors of polygamist families in Utah to this day.
