computer experts only! help please!?

I am trying to correct a problem in works 8.0 program--the files i have from microsoft states the following during the running process "extracting file failed --probably caused by low memory or low disk space for swapping file"
a. tell me in details and exactly how to increase low memory
b. tell me exactly what to do to increase the disk space for swapping files
I have windows xp-home edition. thanks in advance for detailed and instructive answers.
