The poor? Assuming they are employed, they pay 7 1/2 % of their gross income to Social Security/Medicare. The rich "evil" capitalist business owner pays the other 7 1/2%.
The self-employed? Pay 15.5%.
The proper wording of the question is: Why is this an entitlement for them when we have been told all of our lives that it would not be there for us?

We all get Social Security (hopefully) when we reach retirement. It comes along with working all your life and paying into it.
If you see a rich Granny on a golf course, it's not just Social Security that put her there.

I don't know any Grannies that are rich off Social Security. My grandmother is in her late eighties, and she is living off SS..and let me tell you ..it isn't much. All her savings have been depleted, she had to get on food stamps...and this was a women who had the big house, tons of acreage of Avocado Groves, and traveled when and where she pleased. Hell, she did good to support herself for 20 years without working...but now...she is moving in with one of her daughters bc she cannot afford to live on her own. An elderly couple I know retired recently and they said that their SS pays for their insurance and that is basically it. You know you don't have to pay into SS if you have that big of a problem with it personally. Although you will never receive benefits when you are retired...but they say it won't be there anyway.

I wish your granny was able to see you now with your way of wanting her to do without her meds and electric in her home. Do you not know how much money they get a month to live on.. Some of the very lucky ones make a thousend bucks a month. Add up your house payment and your food bills and electric and so on.. See if you can live on 1000 bucks.. My mom had just over 400 bucks a month to live on and that was because she was getting mony from my dads WW2 service. She really had it hard. She even did not have house payments because I set her up in a home of her own. She had no car to put gas in.
I'm sure your mom will be happy with you too when she gets to the age of retirement and had nothing to live on because her child did not want to pay it.. Then think about it you will one day get old too.. Welp too bad because it was how you wanted it.. Don't pay the money and you will not have any when you get older and need it..

Because those rich grannies worked like a dog and paid into social security for 50 plus years so they can ride around their golf carts and play. The poor are young enough to get off their butts and get a job. Lazy pigs.

What, are you a Republican?
Seriously, even worse, look at life expectancy tables and look at when Social Security pays out. There are groups of people with average life expectancies less than the age you need to reach to retire at the maximum benefit. How is that fair?

cause most people need the money they have been putting into the fund for the past 40 years. if they can have some fun in their last years more power to them. if you can scrape by with ss you're lucky cause you'll never have any extra.

I would replace "grannies" with "grampies", and your question would be more accurate.
