We actually have three Mary Kay business owners here! We have one woman has sold sold Mary Kay for over 30 years, two that started their business this year.
The consultant that has been in business for 30 years has had 15 career cars won through Mary Kay, several vacation trips for herself and her husband, as well as diamond jewerly and a mink coat, plus her Mary Kay dream home and has a very successful business.
Owning your own business requires investing money into it. In Mary Kay, you put in a small investment ($100) and make your business work. They also have a buy back policy should you choose to give it up, you will not lose your investment. In other businesses like McDonald's, you can invest Millions and you need to pay loyalties to the company. Not here!
It is also a great self improvment course! We get to go out and meet new women every day and make friendships for a lifetime. Mary Kay's customer vision is to enrich women's lives.

If you are a people person, and can get out there and promote the product, I say go for it! You have nothing to lose! All it takes is $100, and if you decide it isnt for you, then mary kay will buy it back!! No questions asked. Mary Kay is wonderful. I am a consultant and I just love it. I have always said, if you love the product and believe in it, then why not give it a try? I say go for it. I know you will enjoy it Good Luck!!

Pro's: 50% off discount, the product works great, work your own hours, lots of rewards and prizes towin
Con's: PUSHY PUSHY directors trying to talk you into buying lots and lots or product, Market is way over saturated with not just mary kay reps, but skincare and cosmetic companies in general, Very time consuming to make any amount of money the $300 earning for two hours of work line they feed you only accounts for a skin care class itself not the hours put in preparing, recruintg, talking to people, etc.
I am selling Mary Kay for the second time around and am alreayd regretting it. If anything I'm just going to use it for my own personal use. Before you sign up look at all types of home business available first. I work several others and I'd be happy to tell you about some

My wife has been a consultant and to be honest the income is just not there. Yeah they'll say "you've got to work the business and all kinds of stuff, but by the time you pay taxes and you figure out the NET income, the fact is that 90% of MK consultants would be better off working at McDonalds.
Oh, and isn't it wonderful that you can win all kinds of prizes at MK including cars? well, guess what? You can get the car, but you still have to pay taxes on it because it's considered as income. No thanks.
I would say there's one pro: you get the product for yourself (and for gifts...etc) at cost
Cons: It IS an MLM no matter what anybody says.
If you're successful you get to lose a whole lot of friends and people avoid you because the succesfull ones are the ones that see everybody as a potential source of $
You have to lie and be pushy to make any decent money
You can get in lots and lots of bad debt purchassing inventory ( Trust me, I've got the credit card bills to prove it)
You could destroy your marriage by choosing "the business" over your spouse. This has happened MANY times. MK talks about God, Family...etc, but what they really push you to do is "SELL, SELL, SELL" at any expense.
here are some links about MK

I tried to be one a long time ago. A huge con for me and the reason why I didn't become one is that you had to put your own money into it. I mean like a decent amount to. And for someone who is broke to start off with, that a big hit. The consultant that was trying to sign me up was like "take out a loan." I don't think so. You have the time and money to put into really getting your business off the ground, then go for it.

Whatever you do, do not get pushy as the rest of consultants. The company can deceive you in joining, but it is hard to sell the products considering that there are so many brands out there with cheaper prices. Your number one enemy would be Avon, which in all due respect, has better quality products and the price is much cheaper.

I've never been a Mary Key consultant, but if you're very interested in that line of career, you should check out BeautiControl. My mom sells it and she loves it!

Pros: I make my own hours. The busines is whatever I make it. It has lots of potential if I take advantage of it. The investment is relatively small. If I decide to quit, they will buy back my inventory at 90% what I paid. I choose not to pressure my family and friends so they are not afraid of me :)
Cons: I hate making phone calls and so I rarely do, which means my business doesn't do so well. I'm not good at mentioning it to strangers which limits my customer base.

Pros: own hours, my own business, can be a money maker, around positive women and roll models, discount on products
Cons: stressful, you have to dump a lot of money into it to make money, becoming one of those pushing MK ladies, cold calling/meeting.
