Is the purpose of re-classifying the torture clause to gather better intelligence, or to cover the Administration for crimes they have already commited in THE WAR ON TERROR?

It's not actually redefining the Geneva Convention, though that may be another of those misconceptions that it is a lost cause to fix.

Bush is trying to retroactively change the definition of war crimes under federal law (18 USC 2441), which was "any violation of the Geneva Convention" to instead be "these specific acts,......"

The purpose of the change is exactly to cover his butt, and those who committed actions which were felonies at the time they committed them. The entire purpose is to retroactive grant amnesty to people who were knowingly violating federal law.

It's amazing how all the people who oppose amnesty for immigrants seem to have no problem when amnesty is granted to war criminals and felons.

One of the charges that is given to the President when he is sworn in is to protect the American people from all enemies both foreign and domestic. He feels that his ability to so is hampered by people who did not sign or go by the by laws of the Geneva convention. Show me in the Geneva convention where it is OK to kidnap civilians and behead them...

He obviously cares more about keeping you safe than you do.

Geneva read it.

Applies to unifored combatants.

Also the terrorists strap bombs to themselves and walk into a pizza parlor or they use it in a car bomb. Do you consider that compliance to Geneva?

Also "torture"....Loud music is torture? Average prisoner weight gain at club gitmo is 7-8 pounds, free prayer rug or koran, or other holy book to worship their god of choice for free. Plus they get to play out in the soccer field, basketball court. Plus they also have their own thermostat in their suites.
That's cozy not torture. God forbid we press them for information. We should just ask if they know anything and if they don't walk away and say enjoy your stay.

Who knows but should he really need to question the Geneva Convention? Really? If there is a question then don't do it! I voted for the man but this really creeps me out.

If you can't follow the law then change the law to adjust it to your needs like Chavez in Venezuela, Morales in Bolivia and Bush in USA

Bush needs to be given a task he can handle, like counting the number of times his cellmate rapes him.

It is obvious that it is to protect those Americans whose job it is to get information from terrorists. I feel sorry for those who hate America so much that they blind themselves to true evil. One day Osama may just get his wish and kill you and maybe it would have been prevented if only we started taking this war seriously. I personally hope you don't get your wish, that we do take this war seriously.

I believe it is both. More to cover his butt right now, since he is going to keep doing it to try and protect the people of the USA.
