Why is it ok for me to wear shirts, ties and pants (even to a dance) because I am a female but my friend can't wear a sweater set and conservative skirt because he is a guy? Who made up these rules?

Who says it is not okay. Check the dress code. There is a dress code it does not reference sexes in the dress code. A male is more than welcome to wear a skirt if he pleases it just has to meet the code of length.

It's an unspoken "rule" for many people. People thing that it's too weird for guys to take a switch to the feminine side, while it's more natural for girls.

It probably started from a religious belief that states gays are wrong. It also took a lot of time for the world to be adjusted to girls wearing pants and sporty outfits. It has evolved over time.

your "man" friend can wear sweater sets and skirts if he wants but he also has accept that not everyone will accept the fact that he wants to wear girl clothes and if he chooses to dress like a girl the he will be ridiculed

there is no rules to dressing yourself. the irish guys out there wear kilts all the time (like a skirt) and you can always find the guy at the beach wearing speedo's (like a womans bikini)

no rules just right

no one made up these rules, but what u wear represent who u r so u could wear w/e u want. it just that u dont look NORMAL if u dress differently. I think someday people will dress the same no matter girl or boy......hopefully

your "man" friend can wear whatever he wants, unless of course the dress code at work/school prohibits it! Deal w/it,life is MUCH harder than not allowing men to wear skirts.....

he can wear whatever he wants. if you want to go out with a guy in a dress, then knock yourself out. Just expect people to stare and probably have a laugh at you.

The clothes police. Also people who prefer men to be masculine. Be careful with what you are playing with honey. You might be encouraging the opening of a compact you don't want to deal with. Boys SHOULD be boys!
