It varys with each person, My first one did not take they ended up giving me 9 doses, I itched for 2 weeks because they give you a Cocktail mix of Spinal block and morphine when you have a C section, Also I have a very sore spot in my back, it doesn't go away but I only feel pain when you press on it, Other side effects are numb spots in the back, and nausea, later, I had a very stiff back for a couple weeks, after my first one, My other 2 were much better and I associate this with having a better dr. the second and third times, get a good, DR. and express that youare concerned with an epideral, they will help. Some people have no side effects at all. Also just a note epiderals can cause major spinal problems if not administered correctly, or if you move while being administered not trying to scare you but these are the facts.

Unfortunately my epidural did not work for my first delivery so I did not experience any of the numbness and painless feelings that others had. After they took it out my back was a little sore for a few days, but it could have been sore for other reasons, like giving birth? Occasionally you will hear of people having a bad headache or backache for a few days, bot nothing serious. I am due any day with my second and plan on having it done again. Hopefully it will work this time around.

The epidurals are great, don't feel anything at all for hours...not even when you have to pee. However, I did have a side effect of having quite a large lump on my back at the site of injection for a few months afterward, so be careful.

Numbness from the waist down. This usually wears off after a few hours then pain relief is required if you have received a C Section. Sometimes you still have to wait for some sensation at the top of your thighs even though you are not totally numb. This can take weeks or months, but it comes back eventually. Some people say they experience back pain later on. But to be honest, it varies per person. Hope this helps.

Some said you'll get often lower back pain but I got it any way even before epidural. I had epidural with my three deliveries. It was great.

I couldn't feel my legs for a couple hours afterwards, and therefore could not walk or go to the bathroom by myself (although that might have been difficult anyway!)
For a couple months afterwards the area where the needle was VERY tender.
