I've spoken my dislike for Oprah during many conversations and it ends up being everything short of a fist fight with people who approve of her. This brings me to the conclusion that you don't discuss politics, religion and Oprah on a first date...just not worth it.

Ok, heres my beef with Oprah:
I saw this episode where she goes to South Africa and she's walking around giving hugs and talking with the poor families and telling them that they can do whatever they want to do like go to medical school and become a doctor and things along those lines. She creates this BIG scene and says she has something to give the poor sick kids of South Africa!! This is going to be great, she's going to do something really epic here...I'm sure of it! She proceeds to give the girls of this poor country baby dolls and the boys soccer balls. What the hell are they supposed to do with baby dolls and soccer balls!? And while giving these gifts are a nice gesture don't for one second think you're a savior driving around in your air conditioned limo saying you feel for these sick kids and offer them such worthless material possessions. The worst part is she makes money off of her charities by turning them into episodes of her worthless show. Some good somaritan.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hanging up posters on my wall with slogans like "Down with Oprah" or anything. The point to this question is why are people so impressed with her? I definitley don't see the Oprah/ Mother Theresa comparison. Did Mother Theresa air a program showing how wonderful she was or did she just do wonderful things and people caught on? Think about that for a second. I don't care if you like Oprah or not, but if someone you work with went around saying "Hey, I just gave a homeless person 5 bucks!!" You would be like "Oh, good for you...whatever" Because people who make it a point to let others know their good deeds aren't really doing good deeds to do good deeds, they do them so others will say "Wow, that person does good deeds!" Make sense?

Let's all get together and have a Oprah-bash; I can't stand the woman either. I think she is beloved because she is a self-appointed expert who tells those who cannot think for themselves how to feel and think. I usually find that folks who "just love HER!" are pretty shallow and stupid.

Maybe because Oprah is a fairly benign, if not benevolent personality, and perhaps your arguments against her appear petty, superficial, racist, sexist or otherwise arrogant and bigoted. Going after Oprah is like going after water. There's really nothing much bad you can say about water. Petty remarks like "water tastes bland" or "you can actually die of a water overdose" do not outweigh the positive benefits and necessity of water, and the will to make such arguments would tend to suggest an underlying irrational hatred or phobia. Same principle applies to talking smack about Oprah who never hurt anyone, who dedicates her life to helping people and bringing important issues out into the light. Whatever flaws you may see in her, she is only human, and is clearly coming from a good place and doesn't deserve to be slammed. Pick your fights. There's a lot more to be said about the soundrels in the White House. Picking on Oprah just makes you look very petty, and like your values are mixed up.

Also, perhaps your argumentative style has a way of making people feel that you are insulting them for disagreeing with you. Insult Oprah and you may be insulting her fans.

By the way, I am not into Oprah so I'm not defending her as a fan, only as a human being.

Looks to me that you may want to read the entire story of Oprah's labor of love in Africa before jumping to uninformed opinions (gee, I forgot...when facts had anything to do with conversation and discourse!). Try going to her webpage for details. Giving a little kid HOPE for a better future is a great thing to leave somebody with...independent of Oprah or Mother Teresa. I am glad, happy to see a black woman make it in this dog-eat-dog business world.

We need more men and women like her...making it big on their own. GO OPRAH!

Oprah is an American Icon in the eyes of many.

She is a threat to the male baby boomer because she gave women the confidence to seek more than birthin babies and cooking dinner.

She also has so much money that she could actually afford to make changes in the US.

It is a case of damned if you do damned if you don't.

Haha. Yeah, I don't really like Oprah, but my Grandmother will get into an all out brawl if I say that in front of her. I don't know why so many people love Oprah so much. So she gives away free things - I would too if I was that rich.

She's a secret lesbian with her partner Gayle King.

Ellen DeGeneres made a big mistake coming out even though she remains highly popular. Oprah has an image that would be tarnished if word leaked out that she was gay.

Oprah used to be in Baltimore back in the day and I've read that the real reason she left Baltimore was because she was lesbian.

simply by fact it extremely is the incorrect component to do. I hate being mutilated this way and desire human beings could desire to work out what they are doing to their son. The tiny protecting outcomes are unproved and in spite of everything are completely worn out however the hardship expenditures. those genuine hardship expenditures purely count selection issues that happen today and don't incorporate issues like pores and skin bridges that are no longer discovered until ultimately later. simply by fact it hurts like hell, he loses 2 thirds of his penile pores and skin, considerable sexual lube-like function and the main delicate factors of his penis there could be NO justification for doing this. He could desire to have a impressive to entire genitals purely like little females do. Their genitals are harder to scrub than commonplace intact male genitals. another civilised u . s . interior the international is forsaking this custom. maximum Australian medical doctors refuse to do it, despite if it replaced into very just about properly-known whilst i replaced into born. Please think of back, Geoff

i totally agree. anyone who does good deeds then brags about it is ridiculous...but people see someone with wealth and see them giving (a very small percentage) away, they automatically assume that it is good. Just because a celebrity with more money than God gives it away does not make them a better person than someone who donates all of their old clothes, canned food and time to a charity. Why do celebs always get all the credit? Geez.

I guess because she's like a national institution, even when criticism is due they don't want to hear it just because you're criticizing Oprah.

They need to wake up and see that just like any other human being she has her faults.
