How long does it take to progress through the degrees of Freemasonry?

Most men take 6-7 months to proceed through the three degrees of Freemasonry. Some men take less time and some more. It all depends on how quickly you can memorize the proficiency work required to pass from one degree to the next. It is said that John Wayne did all three in one weekend, memorizing all the proficiency work in just a few hours between each degree. It is said that he was word-perfect. Let's just say he was the exception rather than the rule ;)
