I'm going to answer this from the New International Version. This version is in modern English, so it should help you to understand it easier: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away."
First Corinthians 13 is known as The Love Chapter. In the King James Version (which I assume is the version you're quoting), they use the word "charity" for the word "love".
Hope that helps and good luck on the essay!

You can go to Crosswalk.com and get many different versions (translations, paraphrases) and commentaries on verses and chapters. I'm partial to the NIV and The Message. Either will be a lot clearer than the wording of your example, Plus, the commentaries will give you an insight as to how to attack the comparison

Basically it means when you are charitable, truly charitable, you look for nothing in return. You give it completely, without question and you dont even tell anyone about it.

sometimes i think of the international at large can no longer parent who the Christians are. we are style of lumped inclusive of the so called Christians that practice witchcraft, or legalism, or think of there are a number of the thank you to God, and the haters capturing abortionists. How can those individuals be Christian? they are in a position to't by way of fact Christ advised us that "you shall be responsive to them by making use of the fruit" those listed above have not have been given any fruit, so...! The Christians i be responsive to that have quite primary Christ as Lord and Savior, and have faith there is one way, on mediator and one God that died for us on the pass to pay the penalty for our sins previous, contemporary and destiny maximum regularly demonstrate the affection discribed in this financial ruin. of direction, by way of fact we are human, we sometimes fail in our human tries, as God knew. it incredibly is why he despatched Jesus. As we close to the tip of the age, you will see much less and much less of this form of affection by way of fact the unsaved sink deeper and deeper into their own depravity. The Christian love would be considered much less and much less by making use of casual observers by way of fact they have lost the flexibility to parent the fact. by way of fact the asker of this question ask your self while the final time grew to become into you confirmed love everywhere close to this description (Christian or no longer- even they are in a position to pretend it!) BTW, for the guy who mentioned Paul wasn't a "actual disciple", you're suitable . He grew to become into an apostle.

1 Corinthians 1 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society
1 Corinthians 1
1Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,
2To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:
3Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thanksgiving
4I always thank God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 5For in him you have been enriched in every way—in all your speaking and in all your knowledge— 6because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you. 7Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. 8He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.
Divisions in the Church
10I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11My brothers, some from Chloe's household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12What I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas[a]"; still another, "I follow Christ."
13Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into[b] the name of Paul? 14I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15so no one can say that you were baptized into my name. 16(Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don't remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
