The daughter is right. The homecoming dance is semiformal so a cocktail length dress is more appropriate.

As far as I know, it isn't against tradition, but it isn't common. I'm in highschool, and as far I know, homecoming is a lot less formal - knee length dresses are most common. You might also want to keep in mind that she'll be dancing and having fun, so something shorter may be more appropriate. Prom is for the fancy, full length dresses and is a lot more formal. There is nothing wrong with wearing a full length dress to homecoming, but I would say go with what she would be most comfortable in.

At that age, yes. Most of the younger girls (freshmen and sophomores) wear knee length dresses. Some of the older girls will wear a full length gown, but only if they have been nominated for homecoming queen.

Well I don't think it's against tradition, but shorter dresses are still formal enough to wear to prom or homecoming. Short dresses have became in style more.

Your daughter is right,it is more appropriate for a shorter dress at homecoming, but it is not out of the question to wear a longer dress.

I think this just depends on the school. In my highschool we generally always wore long dresses from prom. But for homecoming people wore both. If her friends are going to wear short dress and you don't mind heming up the dress she has I would do it to help stay away from confrontation.

From what I remember, the longer, more formal dresses were reserved for Prom.

But--why take a formal dress and make it shorter? It may be more cost effective to buy a less expensive dress now and save the formal dress for Prom.

Homecoming is typically semi-formal & Prom is when you go all out formal. Hehe. Let your daughter wear whatever she feels most comfortable in. I'm sure she wouldn't want to wear anything that would bring bad attention upon her anyway or get her in trouble.

i've got on no account heard that formerly, i presumed it grew to become into the opposite of that too. For prom at my college that is popular for the senior women to placed on short attire at prom in spite of the indisputable fact that that is by making use of no ability a tricky and quickly rule. i've got considered the two long and short attire at homecoming, regularly short or medium length nevertheless.
