Welcome to college!

1) Yes you're 21, but this is where you're supposed to stretch yourself and LEARN. If you don't know, then fine out.

2) You need to interview someone and you're asking on here? What a terrible interview!! Is it really so hard to find someone who was alive 20 years ago and remembers being alive? You're going to have MUCH harder assignments in life, trust me.

I wouldn't know this from personal experience but I figure that newspapers played a major role in trade or exchange of goods and money because of advertisements. Newspapers of course have always spread news and information around to different people. Newspapers can also spread information on political canidates. News is a form of entertainment for people. Why would so many people watch the news on tv if it wasn't ? Newspapers have definitely changed since the American first newspaper appeared in Boston in 1690. With the start of television and the internet newspapers have posted there articles online and some newspapers realizing that their readers will have already heard reports on breaking news stories on television, have also begun emphasizing feature stories and analysis pieces.

20 years ago the newspaper was the second major source of news. First TV then the paper. Everyone I knew had the paper delivered daily - in my hometown there was a morning and an evening edition.

Entertainment was provided from the comics and columnists (local folks writing about local happenings). The paper has changed in many ways not the least of which is the tremendous number of ads now - since revenue declined due to subscription drop off.

With the advent of the internet and cable news the paper has been in decline as a news source. Today I do not read print news - I find the paper I want to read online.

i assume you are in Jr. College?
