Because everything is first come first serve. We live in a highly competitive world in which the goal is to amass as much wealth (which can be used to get food) as possible. But if you have more wealth that the average, then somebody else must have less. Therefore, the people with enough money to feed a million people ensure that a million people don't get fed.

This isn't some big moral issue for me, its just the way capitalism works.

Because it doesn't matter how much of something is what matters is the $MONEY$...So if you don't have $MONEY$ to buy food you don't eat!!!
