Excellent question. From an econ standpoint you would not dump the Blue Jackets as they draw well at home.
Moving the Canes back to Hartford makes no sense after the success of the team at the gate and on the ice this past playoffs. To be honest, Hartford should never have been added when the WHA merged. It's an incredibly small market to start with and fans in Connecticut could always go north or south to see NHL hockey.
If I was chopping teams I'd say Florida, Washington, Atlanta and Phoenix. All draw pooorly and in both Caps and Thrash case, they have Ovechkin and Kovalchuk respectively and still draw flies.

1. Move back The Carolina Hurricraps to Hartford where they are REAL hockey fans and I know they miss their team a lot!
2. Columbus Blue Jackets OUT!
3. Nashville Predators OUT!
4. Anaheim Ducks OUT!
5. Phoenix Coyotes back to Winnipeg Jets!
Hockey_freak: I've saw ALL the games in Carolina on TV during regular season, everybody here in Montreal where wandering why the RBC Center was so empty until you people made it to the playoffs! Now you obviously never saw how we celebrate a Stanley Cup up here, watch and learn when ANY Canadian clubs wins the Cup. We don't just do a BBQ in a parking lot to celebrate, it's an all year long celebration everywhere in the city.
By the way, I have lots of respect for your passion for the game, keep on' fighting and defend your team girl! I will have a tough for you everytime our respective teams will face each other, ether in Montreal or in Carolina. Enjoy the season! ;P

Nashville, Florida, Atlanta, and Buffalo. Move the Ducks to San Diego and Move 2 teams to Kansas City and Winnipeg. Carolina and Phoenix would be on my teams to move list.* Hartford didn't work before so why put a team there.

Anaheim: LA can't support one team, and the suburb that pretends it's not a suburb proves LA can't support 2 of them.
Move em to Lose-a-Peg
Nashville: What the hell was the NHL thinking putting a hockey team in Nashville? I understand there are a few snowbirds there, but not that many. Move em to Hartford and consider the Hartford Whalers a reactivated franchise, like what they did to the Cleveland Browns.
Thrashers: Atlanta doesn't have any snowbirds that would watch hockey anyways. Move em to Hamilton, Ont
Dallas: As soon as their stars retire, Dallas will lose their entire fanbase. Move them now or merge them with Minnesota.
Teams that deserve to be moved but shouldn't be because of snowbirds wanting to see their teams.
Florida
Tampa Bay
Phoenix
LA

NY Islanders.....laughing stock team of the NHL (Dipeitro/Yashin's contracts)
Columbus BlueJackets......never gonna win anything (esp since they traded Denis and also if they lose Zherdev)
Chicago Blackhawks....even though a original six team, bad management screws this team all the time
Florida Panthers......there's already a (slightly) better team in Florida.........and now without Luongo, they're screwed.

I dont know where you get that carolina fans could get a ticket during the playoffs. Tha only game i went to was the very first one against montreal. We all have our ways of celebrating a win. Wheither it be drinking down main street saying go habs go. Or grilling in the parking lot ( which is very nice). We all have a specail way of celebrating.
Teams i would remove are
1 Phoenix
2.Blue jackets
3. Ducks
4. panthers.

i would move the Canes back to Hartford, Phoenix back to Winnipeg, and i would move Atlanta to Quebec and bring the Nordiques back, then i would get rid of Tampa Bay, Florida, San Jose, Anaheim, Columbus, Nashville. i would drop 6 teams and bring it back to 24 teams like it was in the 80's. then we would see more super stars per team and the scoring will go back up like it was in the 80's. teams today have to many crappy players, sure they are good but most of them wouldn't make the NHL back in the 80's and 70's for sure. and with more talented players on each team the scoring will be up, and we would not have to see all these ridiculous rule changes every year.
you could go and buy a playoff ticket on game day of last years playoffs in Carolina so they are a low market team and will be moved out of there within the next 20 years. Hartford just needed a new arena.
