Bush should meet him - coz ONLY DIALOGUE can solve problems not weapons of mass destruction.
Anyways, Bush has no clue to what to talk - his foreign policy doesn't allow him to talk to Iran unless they do what US wants to do.

Because he is a coward when it comes to the muslim countries. He mentioned 3 main enemies of the United States post-9/11 , Iraq, Iran , North Korea, naturally he attacks the weakest of the 3, Iraq, and in his mind thought that would deter Iran and N.Korea. Problem is, those 2 countries are bigger players than Iraq. Iraq's military weapons were all purchases from N.Korea, Russia and China and captured weapons from the 1980s war with Iran. Iraq was never a big player
Bush is afraid to go into Iran whatsoever because it's basically millions of extremist muslims who depise the US to their dying breath. He quite frankly isn't anywhere near prepared for a war with them, it would be catostrophic considering the losses we've taken from Iraq,3 years after the "mission accomplished" speech was made. Iran would be 8 times the death toll on US soldiers as would N.Korea. These countries believe in themselves so much, they do not care to die or risk the lives of their millions of citizens, they have nothing to lose. It's hard to fight someone like that, much like the Vietnamese.
But on the other hand, it's not just the United States' fault. Iran is an entirely crazed country, it's the only one in the world where the religious figure head, the Ayatolla is granted higher power than their own President has. As we all know, mixing religion into politics leads to ruin and war, their country is founded on this mismatch. Also, having your religious leader openly support you blowing yourself to hell, in order to kill a few "infidels" , is a sign of a failed government.
Case in point is this, both countries are too messed up to ever fix this quagmire. Religion ( Bush being conservative christian zealot and Iran being the muslim extremists) has crippled any chance of a peace talk between these two .

Its much more complex... its politics.
Did you here about the "art" show in their capital...
The cartoons depicting the Final Solution? The gits even sent a letter to the German chancellor saying how sorry they were about the post WWII bad press Germany got!!!!!!!! How they should Join Iran in a new world order!
Admittedly this was mostly the prime ministers doing, trying to increase his profile en all (read the economist).
If you want to talk then fine.... but results come only when the other side is equally committed to change...not just a great media show!
No western leader in their right minds will talk to the Iranians at the moment.
I pray that the Iranian's will one day want to talk... i do. BUT UNTIL THE PRIME MINISTER AND THE AYATOLLAH ARE GONE..... no chance!

Because they won't let Bush out of his playpen for that long.
No, seriously, Americans are not encouraged to even try to understand eastern culture. How many schools offer Arabic or Farsi, Urdu or Mandarin? High school history classes barely cover wesern history, much less the history and culture of the middle east. Young people have no idea that, for example, Iranians do not speak Arabic and are rather more European, ethnically.
Bush fosters this non-understanding, and promotes it by non-listening.
PS - it is frustrating that they were in the same place at the same time and didn't actually TALK to each other!!!!

On an ideological level, they have nothing to talk about. Iran's president is deeply religious, anti-American and a sabre-rattler. What could Bush possibly offer him or say to him that would make Iran sit up and take notice?
Plus since Iran is a sponsor of terrorism, especially Hizbollah, Bush would basically be sitting down with a terrorist. Can you see Bush shaking hands with a terrorist? That would be like opening talks with Bin Laden.
Plus Israel would be pretty mad that Bush is talking to the man who funds Hizbollah which then goes out and fires rockets at Israel.

Meeting the Iranian president would be giving him credibility he does not deserve.
Besides, I don't think Mr. Bush could hold his own against anyone in his own office let alone another politician.
The Iranians want talk in a long-term stalling move. It might come about after they begin to comply with the requirements of the np treaty they signed.

Most definitely yes, but the reason Bush won't talk is because the leader of Iran is scary because he is so so smart (seriously). Bush cannot begin to match him intellectually, plus we are not quite sure what Iran's plans are and whether they can be trusted.

His reasoning was that the Iranian president already said he would not consider halting the Nuclear program. I wouldn't talk to him either until he agreed.

Because both of 'em would need translators.
And so the translators would end up in a debate with each other. Although that would not be a bad thing. It would definately up the IQ of the debate.

Well lets see Iran supports and supplies the Hezzbollah known terrorists previously fighting our close close ally Israel.
Holocaust denier.
Anti-Semitic wants to wipe Israel off the map.
Wants to pursue nuclear weapons.
Do you really think that anyone can persuade him not to go after nukes?
Another un-educated liberal question
