As long as you are not talking chips or cracks, there is hope. There is a company called Micro Mesh. They make a product that is sandpaper, but not sand paper as you probably know it.

Most people think of fine grit as something between 200 to 400. Micro Mesh starts at around 1,000 and goes up to 12,000. Once you get over 8,000 the stuff feels more like smooth plastic than you can imagine. It is sold at many fine woodworking shops in sets that range between 1,000 and 12,000. I, and many other woodworkers, use it on fine detailed restoration projects.

But the product was actually designed to remove scratches from airplane windshields. If you really need to try something, this would certainly be your best bet.

There is a chain store called WoodCraft that carries it, but if you don't have one nearby, I am sure you can find the kit on line somewhere.

Good Luck!
