I turn 18 in a month, early-graduate high school in December. I have a place to move into in Jan. 07 for $225 +utilities. I've got $3000 in savings (but would prefer to not have to spend it all). I've got a part-time job, and am looking to work full-time starting Jan. Considering all things, would I be placing myself in a bad position if I were to move in, and expect that I could find a full-time job in Jan.? Also, can I get a percentage based budget? Please keep in mind I will be receiving absolutely no financial support from others.

Ok, I graduate december 22. Hence, unable to work full-time till then. I'm an extremely hard worker. That is the cheapest rent you'll find in this town. And I must move out as soon as possible. This is not a struggle for independence, people must understand,...I NEED to move out AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Well first off you did good graduating early, Good Job and you saved 3k. it sound like you do not have much of a support system and that breaks my heart.
Have you thought about the military? if your are young and really need a break this might be the answer, when i was 18 and really had know were to go it really paid off for me. it gave four years to figure it out, and get my life going in the right direction.
I wish you the best and do good.

You appear to be an intelligent individual. You have worked hard and saved your money. Not an easy task for a young person today. You are looking ahead to the future, that is a good thing. Go to your local colleges and speak to the financial aid officers. They might be able to find you a place within the college where you can work and live in the dorms and still go to school and get a better education for yourself. Colleges are very willing to help students who try to better themselves. It never hurts to ask and you never know the answer until you do. You do not have to have a 4.0 GPA to get grants or other financial support to go to college.

You can even try out of state colleges or ones outside of your area.

Do not get yourself caught up in a legal contract binding you to a one year lease until you have researched all your other options.

Good Luck and God bless

You will have to figure out how much you will pay for per month:
phone, electric, cable tv, internet, natural gas, food, clothing, gas and maintenance for car. Brown bag your lunch for the full-time job. It depends upon how much you will make on your full-time job $6-9 per hour.

So, for $6 per hour, 40 hours a week, it's about $1000 a month.
rent - 225
electric - 30
natural gas (heat) - 75 average for the year (for typical winter)
cable tv - 40
DSL internet - 20
food - 200
clothing - 100
car - 100
federal, SS, state, unemployment, disability taxes - 250
Total: $1040 a month.

If you have a car payment, then add that to the total. You'll have enough savings, but not much,if you can get furniture, bed, couch, kitchen table and chairs, appliances, silverware second hand.

You could earn 225 +utilities working at McDonalds. I would say take the place. If it comes down to it you should have no problem finding a roommate willing to sleep on the couch for 150 a month.

Get a full time job first ! Then get a place you can afford based on what you'll earn. Keep your savings for an emergency.

Figure your expenses. It's generally a good idea to have six months expense money stuck away in case the train goes off the track. You'll proably have six months of expenses in the savings, right? You should be safe the way it looks from here. Good luck. Wish you were my employee!

I think you should get a full time position before deciding to move out. Also what about school?
