An emancipated minor is a child that is 16 or older (but under 18) and has proven to the court that he can provide for himself. He is no longer living with his parents or depending on them to provide for him.

The corrected spelling is emancipated-means the minor has petitioned with the court to allow the minor to make decisions that legally the parent or guardian would be responsible for prior to the minor turning 18. Also allows for more flexibilty with work hours, curfews, not having to go to school, etc.

A person under the age of 18, who has had a judge release him or her from parental controls -- especially in regard to the minor's money.

This is usually done when the parents have made questionable use of the minor's earnings.

An emancipated minor is a child under the age of eighteen who is by court order no longer the responsibility of the parents. I think they take responsibility for themselves. There is no legal guardian.

It's when a minor is treated legaly as an adult, have the same rights that an 18 year old has, kids can ask for their emancipation on court, or if girl gets pregnant, she can emancipate for getting married.

an emancipated minor is like being able to do adult things without your parent or guardian permission. one example. i couldn't understand it then and i still don't but in mississippi, there was a 19 year old kid who was emancipated by law from his parents, he was married at 16 and became a blackjack dealer at a casino when he was 19. i still don't get it. you must really have a big time problem with your parent or guardian to even want to grow up so fast. i swear i still can hardly believe it...

You are given your freedom, you don't need to listen to the parents, you can invest and manage your own affairs. Down side is that your parents no longer have to pay any bills for you and you have to supply your own home/food/utilities.
