it's been about seven weeks. the back of my earrings has a nick so that you have to jerk off the back(some sick way for it to hurt worse) and i want to take them out. it's hurts just to slightly pull and jerking the back off would kill me. does anyone know how to make it hurt less while i remove the earrings? slowly, no that doesn't work!

Grasp the front of the earring so that it does not move, and then remove the back.

Shame on all the other answers! Why are you even wearing earrings that have a nick on the back? Ear lobes are very tender and must be moistened periodically with a cotton ball dipped in alcohol. If there is an inflamation in your ear lobes from "yanking, pulling, twisting, etc., use the alcohol 2X daily and DON'T wear any earrings for a few days. THEN - if your earrings are 14k gold or sterling silver, please take them to a jeweler and have them smooth that nick off the earrings so they won't hurt your ears anymore. If they aren't 14k gold, and you only paid a small amount for them, I would toss them out and buy yourself a decent pair. There are always sales in the stores. If your ear lobes look red and feel swollen, you MAY even have a little infection in them. Please, love yourself a little more and you'll appreciate the satisfaction this gives you. By the way, if those earrings are still in your ears, an infection may already be festering. I would RUSH, I say RUSH, to your doctor and have him/her cut them off your ears. THEN, if you wish, you can try what I just suggested that you do. I hope it helps.

Hi hi. I've gone through the same thinkg. I iced around the area first before I tried taking it out. The ice would numb the earring area so it won't feel as painful. And instead of jerking the back off, try pushing the back part of the "stem" (of the earrings) forward with your thumb so that your ear hole won't feel like something's tugging on it or stretching it. Or you could try holding the front part of the earring (so it doesn't dig into your ear lobe when you take the back off) and then pulling the back off slowly. Try twisting and turning the back part of it to ease it off slowly. If your ears are really red or swelling after taking them out, try icing it and cleaning the area with the anti-bacterial cleaner the piercing shop gave you. If they didn't give you anything, go to a local cosmetics counter (i.e Shopper's Drug Mart, London Drugs) and you should beable to purchase a bottle there. Make sure you don't feel anymore pain before putting earrings on again! Hope all goes well!

you're ears may not be healed enough to change the earings or they may even be infected. if you really need to change the earings out for a new pair for some reason, definately try the ice to numb the area first. be sure to put a fresh pair of (at least 14k) gold, stainless surgical steel, or titanium earings back in right away or the hole will close up!

do NOT put in stearling silver! it will tarnish while in contact with the healing skin and cause even more infection.

if your piercing is infected (red, swollen, with discharge) you should clean your ears and earings thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or the piercing soultion daily and turn the earing in the hole often so it does not get stuck. also taking the earing out and coating the post with an antibacterial ointment (ie neosporin) will help to heal any infection very quickly and relieve pain at the same time.

Slowly can work-- I've had this problem. Rotate the earring back and forth. Also, the post can be stuck in the back-- it might be in one of those two loops. Ask someone to look at it for you and help you take it out.
Remember you HAVE to rotate. Rotating helps on all earrings. You can also ask your doctor to help you talk them out.
Also, if you don't mind killing your earrings, you can snip the post off with a pair of scissors.
Hope this helps.

If your ears are still that sensitive, they are not ready for you to change earrings. Wait a few more weeks. If you simply MUST put in new earrings, they should be sterling silver or at least 14K gold, as cheap earrings won't allow you to heal. I would strongly advise waiting, though.

It sounds like you need to heal your piercing first. Use a mixture of distilled water and sea salt - it heals piercings wonderfully. Put the mixture in a little spray bottle and spray it on as often as you think of it. Your ears will heal and then it won't hurt to take out the earrings!

I used to thread a safety pin through the hole in the butterfly. It was easier to hold on to to pull.
