I am a straight a student, but i was absent today at school so my friends brought me home my homework and i have no idea how to do it. I have to simplify each variable expression. These are the questions. We are working with distributive property.
2(x+y)
4(4-4d)
2(-5t-7)
-8(2u+3v)
1/3(-5a+6b)
1/2(6x+8y)
-6(-4+2y)
-6(z-6)
-5(-3z-4)
0.25(2x+10)
-(1.75-x)
-(2.5x+8)

2(x+y)
Do 2 times x PLUS 2 times y
2x+2y

4(4-4d)
Do 4 times 4 MINUS (4d) times 4
16-16d

2(-5t-7)
Do 2 times NEGATIVE 5 MINUS 7 times 2
-10t-14

-8(2u+3v)
Do -8 times (2u) PLUS -8 times 3v
-16u-24v

Do you get it now? You multiply that first digit with each constant inside the ( ).

1/3(-5a+6b)=
-5/3a+2b

1/2(6x+8y)=
3x+4y

-6(-4+2y)=
24-12y

-6(z-6)=
-6z+36

-5(-3z-4)=
15z+20

0.25(2x+10)=
.5x+2.5

-(1.75-x)=
-1.75+x

-(2.5x+8)=
-2.5x-8

Imagine negative signs on the outside as -1

you seriouly want me to help and answer?

ok
1. 2(x+y): with distributive you want to get rid of the parenthesis,so you multiply the inner terms by 2(in other words Distributing the 2) which then it looks like this 2x+2y. and that is your answer, this is the main point in distributive property i just did a problem 3xy(5x+2+y)- 6y(2y x 4x)= but anyways im saying this is one of the main concepts youll ever need to know in math. And its simple.

1. Q=2(x+y) A=2x+2y

2 Q=4(4-4d) A=12-12d do you get it?

6. Q=1/2(6x+8y)fractions are a little more confusing to people. but really its just division when you multiply a fraction A=3x+4y
ill break it up for you 1/2 x 6=3. so im telling you right now in #5 you will have decimal points in your answer.

10. Q=0.25(2x+10)decimals are like fractions they confuse and add stress. 0.25=1/4 or you can do it my way of decimal placement where i move the decimal to the right on each number till there is no more decimal number it would look like this 25(200x+1000) and then turn the 25 into a fraction 1/4and 1/4 of 200 is 50 and 1/4 0f 1000 is 250 move the decimal back as many as you moved it foward A=0.5x+2.5

11. Q=-(1.75-x)the easiest problems distribute the negative sign
A= -1.75--x simplfy -1.75+x

subtracting a negative number is the same as adding that number if you have any other ??? chrissolo88@yahoo.com

2x + 2y because you multiply them out or FOIL
16 - 16d
-10t - 14
-16u + -24v
turn 1/3 into decimal first or 1 devided by 3 then that number times -5a and 6b

okay hopefully you get the idea best of luck

now basically all you are doing is multiplying the number ouside of the parenthesis to each number within

oh and for the last two, the negative just changes the sign so
-1.75 + x

-2.5x - 8

You would take the number outside the () and multiply it by the letters inside the (). For example, 2(x+y) would be 2x + 2y

4(4 - 4d) would be 16-16d

Below is something you will just have to memorize:
a positive number x a positive number = a positive number
a negative number x a negative number = a positive number
a negative number x a positive number = a negative number

-6(-4 x 2y) would be
24 x -12y

Good luck. Once you get the hang of it, you will really enjoy algebra!

Just multiply the number outside the parentheses with both numbers inside them.

1. 2x + 2y
2. 16 - 16d
3. -10t - 14
4. -16u - 24v
5. -5/3a + 2b
6. 3x + 4y
7. 24 + -12y
8. -6z + 36
9. 15z + 20
10. 1/2x + 5/2
11. -1.75 + x
12. -2.5x - 8

dont worry just distribute (or foil) the number outside the parentesis
1. 2x + 2y
2. 16 - 16d
3. -10t - 14
4. -16u - 24v
5. -5/3a + 2b
6. 3x + 4y
7. 24 + -12y
8. -6z + 36
9. 15z + 20
10. 1/2x + 5/2
11. -1.75 + x
12. -2.5x - 8

multiply the number outside with both terms inside the bracket. For example:
2(x+y)= 2x+ 2y
and
-(2.5x+8)= -2.5x -8

2006-09-19 19:18:28 · answer #7 · answered by Gypsophila 3 · 0 0

2x+2y
16 - 16d
-10t-14
-16u-24v
-1.2a+2b
3x+4y
24-12y
-6z+36
15z+20
.5x+10.25
-1.75+x
-2.5x-8

Just multiply the outside number or symbol to the given number in the parenthesis like in 2(x+y) you would do 2 (x) = 2x and 2(y) = 2y giving you 2x+2y and the exact same procedure with the rest. It's easier than you think. :)

Multiply the components in the brackets by the number outside of them.

Example 1

2(x+y) = 2x + 2y

the first one is 2x+ 2y. what you do is multiply the outside number with thte inside one. for the last one it would be -2.5x-8. what you do is multiply -1 to each numer in the ()
