Negative refers to the sign of a number or variable,
that is, that it's left of zero on the number line. It's
actually an adjective. We say
that a negative number is the additive inverse of that
number which means when you add them, the sum is
zero. 5 plus a negative 5 is 0. x plus a negative x is 0.
Algebraically it's x+(-x)=0.

Minus is an operation, opposite of plus. It's actually
a verb. Just like you add when you hear plus, you subtract when you hear minus. In the above we can short cut x+(-x) to simply x-x which is stated
as x minus x. But you get the same result either way.

Nothing.

It provides two ways of looking at one problem.

1) you can see 1 positive number, and 1 negative number, and then you can go ahead and combine them.
5 and -2 together make 3

2) you can see 2 numbers, and a minus sign between them, and take the second away from the first.
5-2 makes 3

Both ways will get you the same solution, it's just a matter of personal preference.

There really is no difference unless the negation sign is by itself with a number. Then the negation sign means 0-x, where x is the number

There isn't a difference between them. Saying a-b=c is the same as saying a+(-b)=c. Subtraction and addition are just the combination of two or more numbers. Just when you use subtraction, one of the numbers you are combining is negative.
