since your burner is burning cds,that means you have a burning software,i suggest that you change the medium(dvd roms)eg.lets say you using TDK dvd rom,you can change it to let say MEMEREX dvd rom and so on,if this dont work then you need a firmware upgrade for the burner to do this you'll need the manufacturer of the burner and also the modle # ,what i suggest in doing this get someone who knows about it cause if you make a mistake then thats it,the drive is of no good,so please take care and get someone who really knows about computer like a technician.

u need a burning prog 2 burn dvds. the other is CHECK UR DVD BURNER IF IT HAS a + or - once u do that buy the dvd disc that matches either + or - that ur dvd has the must match.

sounds like you need to reinstall you dvd rom drivers. if you bought the dvd burner afterwards and installed it you should have he cd if not it's probably on your system recovery cd

Use a cleaning disk. Try again. Make sure it's not copy protected material.

you may need to use a diferent software, i burn a new burning one of the later model.

check the speed, always do one below the top speed, i dont know why but that seems to work.
