If a certain form of attire is expected of you, then the invitation should tell you. It will say 'formal', 'smart casual' or something like that. Formal means a dinner jacket and black tie if you are a man and a long glamorous sort of dress with jewellery or dressy evening trousers and sparkly top - that sort of thing - if you are a woman. The fact that it is in Scotland makes no difference to the way that you -if you are not Scottish, should dress. The genuine Scots men will wear their Scottish form of evening dress ( with their kilt) if the invite stipulates 'formal'.
If the invite does not specify formal, then you can wear the unexpected. Wear what makes you feel good, expresses your personality, what you know you look good in. (barring jeans, trainers etc.) Enjoy the occasion.

As a man you would only be expected to wear a kilt at a scottish wedding if you are scottish yourself, or have scottish blood, and want to represent your clan. Otherwise the same kind of highly smart gear as any other Christian wedding. Oh and if you are a Scots man or a man with Scots blood and wear the kilt regalia you should go commando, undercrackers are a big no no!

Unless you are part of the main wedding party who might be wearing the tartan, then Highland outfit would probably be required, and that would be discussed prior to actual wedding as its likely this would have to be hired.
However, if you are a guest, then a regular smart suit, or trousers and dinner jacket would be appropriate.
A nice finishing touch also would be, ether a sprig of Heather or flower with a tartan ribbon trim for a buttonhole.
Highland outfit can be optional as well.
Wear what you feel is comfortable for you and what you would prefer. There is no hard and fast rules on this if you are going as a guest.
Enjoy!

bumbleboi is right, i would only add that most scottish people regard wearing the kilt as a mark of respect for the cultural heritage. therefore even guys without a scottish connection should wear one.

Just wear what you would normally wear to a wedding dinner, that will be fine. They have invited you, not your clothes, and will be happy to see you there.
Hiring full highland dress or tartan clothing would be a mistake, firstly because you wouldn't be comfortable if you're not used to it, and secondly because you could easily be the only one wearing it.

Not all scots get dressed up in all the regalia, you will be ok dressing as normal.
If you're still worried speak to a few people who are going - that you trust not to set up to look like an idiot.
