Yes smile at people even strangers and most will smile back and some even start a conversation.
If they could bottle smiles you could use it in the winter to defrost car wind screens

I love having friends with whom the spoken word becomes less important than a glance, a wink, a smile, a nod, a head tilt or shoulder shrug or lifted eyebrow...and you both know exactly what is being said and laugh inside for the shared moment...a world of difference!
