Haha! That is totally true. I used to do that ALL the time! I was kinda young to be worried about fashion during that time, but my sister was a teenager. She taught me to roll my pants at the bottoms just like you described. That's how all the teens were rolling their pants. It was pretty stupid, but at the time everybody thought it was really cool

Your teacher is totally right - it was a big deal to taper your jeans in at the bottom. Some people did it by folding the bottoms like your teacher described and others did it with safety pins - some people put like a dozen safety pins up the inside of each pant leg, on the outside of their jeans and that had to be done every day and then taken out at night so that you could get in and out of your pants.

There's no better reason why we did this than why kids a few years ago seemed to need to wear their pants down around their butts - it was just a fad in the late 80's/early 90's.

Oh my God, I totally remember this horrible idea!! We used to use a bandanna around our ankle to keep the extra fabric from flopping around, or we would use safety pins. Or if you were extra special, you wore LEGWARMERS (ewww) over the outside of your jeans. I say ewww now, but I totally did it back in the 80's.

We did a lot of weird things back then. Most of them weren't necessarily good ideas, but man, we just thought we were so totally cool.

Don't even get me started on the whole "Flashdance" fad of chopping up your sweatshirts.

I have pictures. It was a huge trend in the 80's. Along with wearing 2 pairs of tube socks. One pair over the other, and then scruched down. I should go burn those photos.......

This was not a fad where I come from. Never saw anyone do this as a fashion statement. Maybe it was something they did in the area she lived in.

oh yes and I loved it....it was when parachute pants were popular and then everyone discovered you could do it with any pant as your teacher described. The songs were Motown /Disco:
Brick House...the freak....and the Bus Stop...(your teacher can teach it to you.)
